Overview over the instruments and methods

The sounding systems of the department Optical Soundings consist mainly of different lidars. These are located at different sites between northern Norway (69°N) and southern Spain (37°N). Recently some campaigns have been carried out at Spitsbergen (78°N).

Until 2007 also measurements with sounding rockets have been carried out from scientists of this division of IAP, mainly from a site in northern Norway. Since 2008 these observations are part of the division Radar Soundings and Sounding Rockets.
