Alain Hauchecorne (LATMOS, UVSQ, Guyancourt, Frankreich) Recent studies on middle atmosphere dynamics from lidar observations

Alain Hauchecorne (LATMOS, UVSQ, Guyancourt, Frankreich) wird auf unserem IAP-Kolloquium einen Vortrag zum Thema "Recent studies on middle atmosphere dynamics from lidar observations" halten.

Zusammenfassung:

Lidars are powerful tools for studying the middle atmosphere. Rayleigh and Doppler lidars measure density, temperature and wind profiles in the stratosphere and mesosphere. These measurements are used for climatological studies, satellite validation and atmospheric dynamics studies. The two lidar stations at the Observatoire de Haute-Provence and on Reunion Island are both equipped with temperature and wind lidars. These lidars are affiliated to the Network for the Detection of Atmospheric Composition and carry out routine measurements. In addition, the military vessel Monge is equipped with a very powerful temperature lidar used during campaigns. During this talk, I will present some of the significant scientific results obtained on the dynamics of the middle atmosphere, including gravity wave propagation and its interaction with mesospheric inversion layers.
