IAP hosts Final Colloquium
Research and results from the SPP-1788 Dynamic Earth project
Kühlungsborn, 04 May 2022
The Priority Program 1788 "Dynamic Earth" funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) during the last 7 years (2015-2022) included a myriad of projects and research teams for establishing an international research framework for gravity, geomagnetism, and space and atmospheric sciences to tackle their intra-disciplinary questions.
The main focus of this Priority Program was to quantify terrestrial transport mechanisms and solar-terrestrial interactions. The research programs build on data from satellites on low-Earth orbits, such as CHAMP, GRACE, GRACE-FO, GOCE, Swarm and ground based measurements and modelling.
The key to successfully investigating the range of topics in this program was the multidisciplinary approach with scientific focus on the following areas:
- Geomagnetic Field
- Gravity Field
- Current Systems of the Ionosphere/Magnetosphere
- Thermosphere/Ionosphere Coupling
In this year the SPP „Dynamic Earth“ is commencing towards its completion and in the “Final Colloquium” we will get a chance to review the research conducted, results obtained and new science questions emerged during this dynamic journey around the earth.
Invited speakers:
- Anja Strømme (ESA ESRIN, Italy)
- Astrid Maute (NCAR Boulder, USA)
- Nicola Gillet (University of Grenoble, France)
- Jesper Gjerloev (JHU-APL, USA)
