Mittelfristige Dynamik

Die Dynamik der Welle-Grundstrom-Wechselwirkung ist von grundlegender Bedeutung für die atmosphärischen Zirkulationsmuster. Planetare Rossby-Wellen prägen plötzliche Stratosphärenerwärmungen, die Brewer-Dobson-Zirkulation und andere Erscheinungen in der Stratosphäre, während Schwerewellen in der Mesosphäre eine herausragende Bedeutung zukommt. Gegenstand dieses Forschungsschwerpunktes sind deren mittelfristige Effekte in der mittleren Atmosphäre und die entsprechende raum-zeitliche Variabilität der Zirkulation in der Mesosphäre / unteren Thermosphäre.

Methoden

Die Diagnose des Einflusses von Rossby- und Schwerewellen aus Simulationen (zum Beispiel vom KMCM oder UA-ICON) ist wichtig, was die Anwendung und Weiterentwicklung von Hilfsmitteln wie den Eliassen-Palm-Fluss oder vereinfachte Transportmodelle erfordert. Die gemeinsame Auswertung von Modelle mit Beobachtungen und Analysen wird durchgeführt, um die relevanten Prozesse zu identifizieren.
