Kühlungsborn, 12 June 2026 – With a varied programme of talks, engaging discussions and many fresh perspectives on current research, the science communication competition “Rostock’s 11” was a resounding success yesterday.
The Leibniz Institute of Atmospheric Physics had the pleasure of hosting this year’s event. PhD students and postdocs from various research institutions in Rostock presented their research in eleven-minute talks to a jury comprising journalists, science communicators and representatives from the education sector.
The programme impressively showcased the diversity of Rostock’s research landscape. Topics ranged from medicine and atmospheric research to the humanities and social sciences, as well as issues of animal welfare, marine research and sustainable technologies. The participants demonstrated not only scientific excellence but also a great talent for conveying complex content in a way that was understandable, creative and accessible to the general public.
We are particularly delighted with the successful performance of our PhD student Nadine Müller, who represented the IAP superbly with her presentation “Mit Lasern auf Kurs: Wie Lidar dazu beiträgt, die Schifffahrt auf der Ostsee sicherer zu machen”.
The competition was won by Luisa Zach from the Leibniz Institute for Catalysis (LIKAT) with her presentation “Licht als Werkzeug der Chemie oder: Wie CO₂ zum Rohstoff wird”. We offer our warmest congratulations on this award.
Even though only one presentation could be awarded a prize in the end, all the entries were impressive in their own way and offered fascinating insights into current research topics. The high quality of the presentations and the breadth of topics made “Rostock’s 11” an inspiring event for participants, the jury and the audience alike.
Our heartfelt thanks go to all the presenters, the members of the jury, the organisers and the viewers of the livestream, who all contributed to the success of the event.
We are delighted that the IAP was able to host this special competition and are already looking forward to the next edition of “Rostock’s 11”.
