William E. Ward (University of New Brunswick, Kanada) The Nightglow: Observation and Implications
William E. Ward (University of New Brunswick, Kanada) wird auf unserem IAP-Kolloquium einen Vortrag zum Thema "The Nightglow: Observation and Implications" halten.
Zusammenfassung:
The terrestrial nightglow is chemiluminescence in the mesopause region associated with the recombination of atomic oxygen. It provides a natural observation screen to observe the coupling between the lower atmosphere and ionosphere/thermosphere. It provides a means to remotely monitor the chemistry, thermal state and dynamics of this region. In this talk, the physics of airglow will be reviewed and observations made in my group and their interpretation described. Recent comparisons between winds from a meteor radar and Doppler shifts in optical airglow emissions will be discussed.
