Dr. Sebastian Borchert (Deutscher Wetterdienst) The ICON model - overview of the numerical-weather-prediction mode (ICON-NWP)
Dr. Sebastian Borchert (Deutscher Wetterdienst) will deliver a talk on the topic, "The ICON model - overview of the numerical-weather-prediction mode (ICON-NWP)" at the IAP colloquium on 17th November.
The presentation will give an overview of the NWP configuration of the ICON model as used for the operational weather prediction at the German Meteorological Service (DWD). After an introduction of the essential components, such as grid structure, dynamical core and physics parameterizations, the upper-atmosphere component will be outlined, which was developed as part of the DFG research group "Multi-Scale Dynamics of Gravity Waves (MS-GWaves)". Finally, some current projects will be shown that are concerned with further development of ICON and the numerical weather prediction at DWD.
