Working Group Satellite Data Analysis
We investigate the terrestrial ionosphere and atmosphere-ionosphere coupling. To this aim, we apply satellite observations and combine our analyses with ground-based and model simulation data, which includes the collaboration with IAP’s departments. We also apply and develop empirical models and contribute actively to current and future satellite missions within science consortia.
The working group’s scientific achievements are reflected by publications. In addition, currently active projects are:
- ESA's Swarm DISC (since 2021): we develop and maintain the statistical model of the occurrence rate of equatorial F-region night-time plasma irregularities based on CHAMP and Swarm satellite data of the geomagnetic field and ionospheric plasma density.
- Alexander-von-Humboldt research fellow (2024-2026): Suman investigates the relation and causality between atmospheric waves in the lower thermosphere and the onset of equatorial spread-F.
- We participate in the ISSI international team MLT-LoLa (2024-2025).
