Dr. Facundo Poblet (IAP) Helmholtz decomposition of a wind field in the MLT using Longitudinal and Transverse correlations from multistatic specular meteor-radar observations.

Dr. Facundo L. Poblet (IAP) will give a talk in IAP´s colloquium on 5th July 2022 on the topic, "Helmholtz decomposition of a wind field in the MLT using Longitudinal and Transverse correlations from multistatic specular meteor-radar observations"

He will discuss the results of his research conducted here at IAP on how ionized meteor trails entering the atmosphere can be measured by meteor radars and used to estimate spatial correlation functions of the lower-thermosphere wind velocity. These functions have many applications and are widely used in the geophysical community. In particular, they can be used to perform a Helmholtz decomposition of the wind correlations to study the relative contributions of divergent and rotational modes of motion.
In this talk, the results using two different data sets in northern Germany will be described. The same analyses can be implemented using different meteor-radar datasets at different latitudes to improve the understanding of high-order statistics in the MLT.
